What to do this time of year??

It’s that time of year…that crazy, hectic, busy Christmas season. We all run around putting up our decorations, go to concerts, buy presents, plan festivities, PLAN ON GOING TO WORSHIP (that’s not supposed to be a subtle hint), and do everything else that comes along with this beautiful but busy and sometimes crazy time of year. This time of year is also Advent, a time of anticipation and reflection and hope. In the midst of all the busyness there is also the faith stuff, the fact that what we are ultimately getting ready for is celebrating the birth of our Savior, the celebration of God with us. The problem is, how do we do that in the middle of everything else that needs to get done??

Luckily there are many ways to focus on the life, love, and joy of Jesus Christ in the midst of this busy season. I recently found an article entitled “Practicing Advent: A Guide for Parents and Families” at patheos.com that provides a number of great suggestions for ways to celebrate this Advent season in the midst of your daily life. My personal favorites are the Busted Halo Advent Calendar and Create an Advent Mix Tape. Give it a look and see if there’s something for you and/or your family that might bring some of the life, love, and joy of Jesus Christ into the midst of this busy season.

Maybe you’re looking for an event, something you can actually go and do? Our sisters and brothers over at Christ’s Lutheran Church have a great event coming up!

For the 11th year, Christ’s Lutheran Church is offering a very special Advent prayer experience to our community. The Parish Hall will be transformed with candlelight and soft music, as visitors travel through twelve different stations with hands-on prayer activities. Over the years, hundreds of people have found this to be a wonderful opportunity to slow down, be renewed and inspired during the hectic holiday season.

This year, there is a lot to worry about in the world. Prayer is one of the most important things we can do, and a reminder that, whatever happens, “God’s got it.” We hope you will can head over to Christ’s Lutheran in December. The center is designed for ages 5-105, and takes about an hour to walk through. For more information or to sign up for a time to walk, please contact Elise Seyfried (eliseseyf@yahoo.com, 215-886-4612).

Whether you find something in the article above, attend the Prayer Center at Christ’s Lutheran Church, or simply take a little time each day to reflect on what this season is, what this time of year means, and what God does with us and for us we hope that you have a meaningful and joyful (even if busy) Advent season!
