Boar’s Head is over, what now?

The annual Boar’s Head Festival has come and gone with all its work, excitement, joy, and Spirit. So, what do we do now? The Boar’s Head Festival is such a major undertaking within the life of St. Peter’s that it dominates much of our thought and energy as we prepare for it and as we experience the beauty and majesty of the Festival weekend. Now that it is past and we have 361 days until our next Boar’s Head Festival what do we do with ourselves?

First of all, I hope that all of you, cast and crew, directors and musicians, attendees and supporters, got a little bit of rest! Once you have I hope that you will find ways in the coming days, weeks, and months to share the life, love, and joy of Jesus Christ with others. In the time between now and when you next put on your costume, grab your music folder, or arrive to see the performance I hope that you will engage your faith, grow in your faith, and live in your faith in new and different ways.

Read articles and blogs to learn more about different elements of the world and the life of faith. Gather different perspectives by participating in discussion groups. Attend Adult Forum or a workshop to go a little deeper into your life of faith, to ask questions, to explore your faith. Participate in Social Ministry efforts to share the life, love, and joy of Jesus Christ with others through service and truly live out the call to love and serve our neighbors. Go to church fellowship events and get to know the people of our community of faith a little bit better or simply to spend time with faithful friends. Teach Sunday School or volunteer for Vacation Bible School to help share the love of Christ with the youngest among us and to see the joy that they will share with you. Join the choir to raise your voice in praise and thanksgiving to God. Come to worship to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and to join with the community of faith in prayer, praise, and joy as we celebrate God’s grace and God’s love each and every Sunday. Create a new ministry to bring new experiences and ways to engage faith here in our church. Pray without ceasing.

There are numerous ways to live the life of faith beyond the Boar’s Head Festival. The Boar’s Head Festival is a beautiful and majestic expression of the faith and joy of this community and one of the biggest ways that we are able to share the life, love, and joy of Jesus Christ with others but there are 361 days until the next Festival weekend. I hope that you will spend a little time in prayer and reflection, remembering the joy and beauty of the Boar’s Head Festival, and consider how you might continue to experience that feeling that comes from such Spirit-filled moments, throughout the year. The Boar’s Head Festival is one weekend a year, but the joy and faith that are such a deep part of it is something that we have every day.
